Air
The Island and surrounding salt marshes are home to an amazing variety of birds.
Currently, as part of the Co-ordinated Water Bird Count (CWAC), volunteer Thesen Islands residents do a bi-annual count on Thesen Islands.
Water
The Knysna seahorse is truly a national treasure. It is South Africa’s only endemic seahorse and is one of only two endangered seahorse species in the world.
The waterways are also home to a wide variety of sea life. Not only does the gabions offer a safe haven for seahorses but also octopuses who have made it their home.
Occasionally, a seal explores the waterways of Thesen Islands in search of food.
Land
There are many beautiful creatures and plants on Thesen Islands.
