Outdoor Facilities
Thesen Islands visitors are often surprised to encounter our fruit orchard. There are a wide variety of trees including citrus, plums, figs, granadillas and nuts. We have rows of strawberries and are experimenting with vine cultivars. An automated, drip-feed irrigation system is in place.
The maze to the south of the orchard was constructed from excess poles recovered from the demobilization of the old timber factory. The poles have been threaded with fruit trees and creepers to provide a magical experience for children and adults alike.
  
The kiddies playground adjacent to the clubhouse is always in demand. The wooden apparatus is colourfully painted and children can choose from swings, see-saws, slides and jungle gyms while their parents or minders relax at the benches and tables provided.
Bird lovers - remember to bring your binoculars! The man-made fresh water lake complete with a roosting island is a magnet for the many and varied Thesen Islands water birds. The strategically placed bird hide is the best place to observe them.
  
Every afternoon you'll find a group of enthusiastic residents and their animated dogs congregated in the white picket-fenced, lawned dog run area. Here, even the largest pooch can comfortably stretch his legs or just check his pee mail off the leash in a safe environment. Water points, dog dropping disposal bins and benches (for the owners) are provided.
